Darren Cahill, coach of Jannik Sinner, spoke on the eve of the second semifinal at Roland Garros 2025 that will see the South Tyrolean take the court against Novak Djokovic.

“If you had asked me a month ago to sign for the Roland Garros final, I would have said, ‘Where do I have to do it?’ So it is very exciting for us, and it is the same for Jannik.”

“He still lacks small details, anticipation, the ability to move quickly to a corner, he has to get into the rhythm of the competition, catch up with automatisms, but he is improving every day. I don’t know if it’s already enough to win the tournament, but the main thing is not to look too far ahead.”

“We know that if he plays at a high level few can beat him, but if he goes down a little bit, not only him, but all the top players, can be in trouble. There are other very good players, Rune for example, or Musetti, and really things can change quickly in tennis: if Bublik had broken him and won the second set, the match would have been reopened, but if you can maintain that level for 4-5 hours, then you really become difficult to beat.”

“That’s really what we’re aiming for: to get to the point where we can maintain mentally, physically and at the level of play, a high standard for as long as possible. Of course, there will be days when you don’t play well, but even in those cases, if you lose, you learn, come back stronger and start again. It’s a daily job. The goal is for him to stay focused on himself, not get ahead of himself, and continue to set his own standard. He doesn’t train to compete against Djokovic, Zverev or Alcaraz. He wants to become the best Sinner.”
