Ahead of the 38th edition of the America’s Cup, which will see its climax in 2027 in Naples, Luna Rossa promises to make things big starting with a major market coup: Peter Burling, the winning helmsman of the last three editions of the Cup, in fact joins the Italian team that will finally try to give the trophy to a tricolor association, after the series lost in 1992 by Moro di Venezia against America 3 and those that saw Luna Rossa succumb in 2000 and 2021 right in the presence of Team New Zealand.

“I am really proud to join Luna Rossa for the 38th America’s Cup. Racing against this iconic team has always been electrifying, and to have the opportunity today to be a part of it is a real honor– said Burling, explaining his choice. “The innovation and determination that Luna Rossa brings to America&#8217s Cup has always inspired me””

“I thank everyone for the warm welcome I have received and look forward to working together with a team of the highest caliber like this one and giving my all to help win the first America”s Cup for Luna Rossa; added Burling, class of 1991, who also won an Olympic gold medal in his career, in the 49er class, at the Rio de Janeiro Games in 2016.

Also delighted Max Sirena, CEO of Luna Rossa: “We are thrilled to welcome Peter Burling. He’s long been our opponent and over the years we have had the opportunity to appreciate both his extraordinary sailing talent and his fairness and sportsmanship in competition. Although his exact role is not yet defined, he will certainly be part of the sailing team, strengthening the leadership of Luna Rossa’s core group, and he will also contribute in other key areas of development. Peter brings great sporting, technical and human value, and we are confident that his presence will give a major boost to the entire team, infusing new energy, experience and determination in view of the challenge ahead”.
