Thanks to a three-set success against Britain&#8217s Arthur Fery, Luciano Darderi qualified for the third round of the Wimbledon tournament, thus improving on his best result, reaching the second round in 2024 when he had to surrender to Lorenzo Musetti, however. 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 was the score of Thursday&#8217s match in favor of the current world number 59.

Despite the imposing difference in ranking (Fery occupies in fact the position number 461), Darderi’s was not a walk in the park: in fact, it took a total time of two hours and twenty-five minutes for the Italian from Villa Gesell to get the better of the 23-year-old Briton, who had triumphed over ATP number 23 Alexei Popyrin in the first round.

Darderi did not tremble in the decisive moments, raising the level of his game in the final of each set to send each of the three fractions to the archives without taking any further risks, thus gaining qualification to the round that will see the thirty-two tennis players still in play. Already known is the name of the next opponent: it is Jordan Thompson, who beat Benjamin Bonzi in five sets.

A class of 2002, Luciano Darderi has won two ATP tournaments in his career, both 250: in Cordoba, in February 2024, he beat Facundo Bagnis 6-1, 6-4 in the final, while in Marrakesh, in early April 2025, he won in the deciding match against Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(3), 7-6(4). Both tournaments were played on clay, a surface congenial to Darderi’s characteristics.
