F1: Russell’s future in Mercedes depends on Verstappen

Sunday is the British GP, George Russell’s home circuit. The British Mercedes driver is also aiming to do well to ward off rumors that he is leaving the Silver Arrows.
Russell said he was not worried by the many rumors that would have the Mercedes team principal under heavy pressure on Verstappen: “I trust Toto Wolff“ his clear during Thursday’s drivers’ press conference at Silverstone.
However, it is clear that the situation is rather delicate, especially for Russell. Since he has been racing for Mercedes (2022), the Briton has proven to be an excellent driver, but it is clear that Wolff, if there is ever a chance to put four-time World Champion Verstappen under contract, will not let the opportunity slip away (the team principal has infinite esteem for the Dutchman, he wanted him back in his Academy days).
At this point, Russell’s future lies in the hands of…Verstappen. The decision that will be made by the Dutchman (under contract with Red Bull until 2028 but there would be a rescission clause that can be activated under certain conditions) will, by necessity, decide Russell’s future. To be excluded, in fact, that Antonelli, present and future of the Silver Arrows, could be questioned. The feeling is that, in the coming days, perhaps as early as the end of the British GP, important news will arrive on the driver market front and, in particular, on the future of Verstappen and Russell.
