Elisabetta Cocciaretto, world number 116, will play her Wimbledon women’s singles third-round match tomorrow against Swiss Belinda Bencic, number 35, but who touched number 4 in 2020.

The Marche player hopes to match her record in Grand Slam tournaments, the round of 16 at Roland Garros last year. The Swiss from Canton St. Gallen among the top 16 at the Championshps has already made it there three times, but at the 2019 US Open she landed in the semifinals, defeated by Canadian desaparecida then winner of that Slam Bianca Andreescu.

The Marches player is hoping to make it to the semifinals.

In this tournament Cocciaretto has yet to drop a set, beating two U.S. players: first the breakthrough against world No. 3 Jessica Pegula, then the success against Katie Volynets. Bencic in the first round also got the better of a U.S. player, Alycia Parks, in two sets, then in the second she bent Frenchwoman Elsa Jacquemot in the third set.

Only one previous match between the two tennis players: it was won by Bencic 6-4 6-2 in the first round of the Internazionali d’Italia on clay at the Foro Italico in Rome in 2022. The two will begin their match, which will open the program on court number 18, at noon Italian time.
