Samuele Privitera didn't make it: he died at not even 20 years old

Samuele Privitera did not make it. The 19-year-old Ligurian died Wednesday evening at Parini Hospital in Aosta from very serious injuries sustained in Pontey, during the first stage of the 61st Giro Ciclistico della Valle d’Aosta – Mont Blanc, reserved for the Under 23s. The young cyclist, probably thrown off a bump, fell downhill, lost his helmet and violently hit his head against a gate, suffering a fatal head injury.
“The dynamics of the’accident is still to be clarified and is being investigated by the public safety authorities – organizers said in a note.
Because of what happened, the organizing committee has decided to cancel the second stage scheduled for Thursday, July 17, in Passy. The race will resume with the third stage, scheduled for Friday, July 18, the Pré Saint Didier-Colle del Gran San Bernardo, which will be preceded by a moment of recollection and the initial section of the stage will be neutralized in memory of Samuele”.
Privitera was born in Imperia on Oct. 4, 2005, and lived in Soldano, not even 20 kilometers from the French border. He was racing for the continental team Hagens Berman Jayco and was in his second season in the Under 23 category.
Until the end of the event, all protocol ceremonies are cancelled.
