Some apprehension at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell during the second round match between Carlos Alcaraz and Otto Virtanen. After about 40 minutes of play, the Spaniard felt a slight discomfort in his right wrist and requested the intervention of the physiotherapist. He was quickly treated and then continued the match with a bandage covered by his cuff.

Alcaraz had already explained that he wanted to manage his physical condition more carefully in this part of the clay court season, after some problems he had in recent years that prevented him from having continuity between major spring tournaments. Added to this is the fact that, after his defeat in the final in Monte Carlo against Jannik Sinner, he surrendered to the same Italian the first position in the world rankings.

“There are always small annoyances, but I hope it’s nothing serious: tomorrow I won’t play and we’ll see,” he said after qualifying for the round of 16.

This is not the first time his wrist has created some problems for him: two seasons ago an injury sustained in training in Monte Carlo forced him to miss several major tournaments and play Madrid in less than ideal conditions. More recently, last season, a left hamstring problem that surfaced in the final against Holger Rune had kept him out of the Madrid tournament.
