Romelu Lukaku, meeting with Napoli: solution found

Romelu Lukaku’s last appearance in a Napoli shirt was on March 20, in the away match in Cagliari, when he was on the bench for the entire 90 minutes. About a month has passed since then, a period in which the Belgian striker has been training in Brussels with a personal trainer, despite different agreements with the blue club. Once it was clarified that he would not take part in the commitments with Belgium, Napoli would have preferred to recall him during the same national team break.
Lukaku then returned to Castel Volturno, where he had already been since Saturday night. Earlier today he had a meeting with the club to define the situation created during the month-long absence. According to Sportmediaset, the confrontation took place in a calm and collaborative atmosphere: the parties spoke to each other in a direct and responsible way, with the aim of overcoming tensions and misunderstandings and realigning on the sporting level. The shared will is to turn the page and focus exclusively on the end of the season. In this context, the hypothesis of a disciplinary sanction seems to have receded.
As for the future, Lukaku will not remain permanently in Naples: in the coming hours he will return to Belgium to continue a personalized work program, always in constant contact with the club’s medical staff. The 32-year-old’s goal is to recover the best physical condition in order to be available again before the end of the season, with his eyes already set on the 2026 World Cup, his big goal.
