Valerio Bianchini extends hand to disheartened fans

Valerio Bianchini, after opening a case with a previous post infuriating Trieste fans at a delicate moment for the Giuliana team, returned to speak out on his much-followed Facebook page.

“Fans disheartened by the mechanisms of professional sports, have bitter hearts because it is the heart that governs the fans,” wrote the legendary coach capable of winning the Scudetto with Cantù, Roma and Pesaro. “As Pascal said, “The heart has reasons that reason does not know.”

The discontent of the supporters of Trieste Basketball is rooted in an affair that has been holding court for weeks: That of the possible sale of the sports title of the Julian club to Rome, as part of a project that would involve Donny Nelson and Luka Doncic. A situation intertwined with the fate of Vanoli Cremona, which is also potentially interested in a transfer to the capital, so much so that even La Provincia di Cremona spoke of “two roosters aiming at the same henhouse,” stressing that in both cases it is “mere business” that tramples “the dignity and history of two cities and their fans.”
The mobilization of Trieste fans took the form of an online petition that collected thousands of signatures. “Pallacanestro Trieste has proven its worth on the field, with important results even in the European arena and with one of the most numerous and participating audiences in Italy,” the text reads. “A sports club can be sold. But a sports culture cannot.” A message that also recalls the deep historical roots of basketball in the city, with Ginnastica Triestina the Italian champion in the first championship in 1929-1930. It should be remembered that Bianchini, before he became the target of criticism from Giuliani fans in spite of himself, had actually expressed concern for the fate of Trieste.
In an interview with Il Messaggero he had said, “It would be terrible. Modern basketball has its roots long ago, when at the time of the exodus Bogoncelli brought Cesare Rubini from Trieste and helped make Milan great. Not to mention that the people of Trieste were also wronged in the Stefanel era.” Adding, “We are talking about a historic square, which has passion and almost 5,000 subscribers. Unfortunately, I don’t think Matiasic will retrace his steps, I just hope that Trieste can still have a team in A or A2.”
