Jorge Martin got the new MotoGP season off to the best possible start, taking two podiums in the sprint and two podiums in the long race, all in the first three dates of 2026,especially after returning from a serious injury suffered last year. He is now -4 from leader Marco Bezzecchi and the next stop is Jerez: “I’m looking forward to Jerez. Actually, if I have to be honest, I really want to get there. I’ve had time for everything: training, breaking away and coming back stronger,” he told AS.

The Spanish rider was clear about his physical situation: “I’m still not 100 percent, but in Jerez I’ll be a little better than in Austin; the bones are healing, but it’s clear that physically I still feel something and it’s also true that when I’m on the bike with adrenaline, I don’t feel anything.” In addition, the ’89 added, “I think that until mid-season I will not be at the top of my form.”

In spite of this, the World Champion was amazed by his start to the season: “I thought, without having done the preparation again, that I would be much further away from the leaders. Instead it was a perfect start, also because since I arrived the bike had something extra. I am adapting very well to what the Aprilia requires and everything comes more naturally to me.” However, the Spaniard still feels ‘behind’: “I see that Marco (Bezzecchi, ed.) has that something extra that we haven’t achieved yet, but I believe in the project and we will get there.”

Jorge Martin ahead of the next round on April 24-26 keeps his feet on the ground: “Jerez is not one of my best tracks. I’ve done a few poles, but I don’t think I’ve ever finished a race on Sunday, so expectations are low.” However, the 1998 class remains positive: “I think we can fight for good positions, but winning will be very difficult.”

Finally, according to rumors that emerged earlier this year, Jorge Martin will become an official Yamaha rider, precisely it would be a two-year contract (2027 and 2028). At the moment, however, the rider market is temporarily blocked due to some agreements between top management that have yet to be finalized, and the Spanish rider had his say: “It’s not something I can control, now I’m focused on the present. It cost me a lot to get here and I want to enjoy it.”
