Although talks are underway between the United States and Iran to end the war that has been going on for more than three months, tensions between Washington and Tehran remain very high, and this is also evidenced by the recent shooting down of an MQ-1 drone of the U.S. forces that had trespassed into Iranian territorial waters.

Deputy Commander for Coordination of the Iranian Army Habibollah Sayyary recently threatened the U.S. in very clear words, “Any new aggression against Iranian territory will receive an even more vigorous response than previous attacks. Today the Iranian military has the most advanced and modern equipment and has resisted any move by the enemy,” he told state television.

The threat, according to U.S. media, has greatly unnerved Donald Trump, who is personally involved in negotiations with Tehran. The situation remains very complicated and could also have repercussions for the World Cup that will begin in just over ten days.

According to many, there is a possibility that the Iranian national team will be excluded from the rainbow tournament that will take place between the United States, Mexico and Canada. The underlying problem is related to the issue of visas: the U.S. authorities have not yet issued the necessary documents to allow some members of Team Melli’s delegation to enter the country, which is why the team will be staying in Tijuana, Mexico, to prepare for the competition.
