Heat Alert at Wimbledon: All Matches Suspended Due to Electrical Failures

Heat alert at Wimbledon: The qualifying matches scheduled for Wednesday at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London have been temporarily suspended due to malfunctions in the electronic call system. Technicians are working to resolve the issue, but the malfunction underscores the heat wave currently sweeping through the English capital, with temperatures peaking at 35 degrees Celsius.
The intense heat is also hampering the training of top seeds like Jannik Sinner, who has been on the court for days to adjust to the London grass. The UK’s national weather service had already issued an amber alert for extreme heat in recent days for parts of southern and eastern England and southern Wales. There is some good news, however, in the forecast for the coming days: according to experts, the high-pressure system responsible for the intense heat waves could begin to weaken starting on June 29—the opening day of the Wimbledon main draw—with temperatures expected to settle at levels closer to seasonal averages.
Sinner will test his form at the 2026 Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic, a prestigious exhibition tournament hosted by the Hurlingham Club in London. The world No. 1 will face Britain’s Cameron Norrie—a former ATP No. 8 and 2022 Wimbledon semifinalist—on Wednesday afternoon in his first official match on grass following a 27-day break after his second-round exit at Roland Garros against Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
The BBC has dedicated a special feature to the Italian player titled “The Making of Jannik Sinner,” tracing his origins in the Dolomites and his tennis training. His longtime coach, Riccardo Piatti, offered valuable insight into the champion’s mindset: “95% of his life is tennis. He thinks in terms of tennis. He lives his life, but he’s always thinking about tennis—how he can improve, what paths to follow to keep getting better.” Sinner will make his debut on Monday, June 29, on Center Court no earlier than 2:00 p.m.
