Marc Marquez’s celebration after his victory in Sunday’s German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring certainly did not go unnoticed: Stopping among his fans during the victory lap, the nine-time world champion donned a playful inflatable crown, embracing the nickname “SachsenKing” that many insiders have given him for his ability to always make a difference on the German circuit.

“I’m super happy; it was a special weekend,” Marquez said on the sidelines of the podium celebration. “I was very focused: if I want to win the championship, I had to attack here, and we did. You have to do the right things when you feel strong; we’ve managed to do that in the last few races. I’m happy to have reached ten wins at the Sachsenring—it’s a significant number. And now the championship is completely wide open: five races ago we were 103 points behind; now we’re down to minus 18.”

Despite his enthusiasm, Marc Marquez doesn’t hide his one regret: not sharing the podium with his brother Alex, who retired after a crash: “Alex deserved to be on the podium for how hard he worked after his injury; I’m sorry he had to retire—that’s why I’m not 100 percent satisfied. He’ll have other opportunities, though: he’ll be a force to be reckoned with at Silverstone.”

Marc Marquez, after a difficult start to the season marked by some issues getting a feel for the new Desmosedici and, above all, by an injury that had prevented him from competing in Sunday’s race at Le Mans and his home Grand Prix, in Catalonia, has regained his form, and after his sweep at the Sachsenring, he now has 190 points in the standings—18 behind Jorge Martin and 4 behind Ai Ogura, who holds second place.
