Andrea Scanzi also talked about tennis during his appearance on the Gurulandia podcast, focusing on the match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz and also addressing the topic of the one-handed versus two-handed backhand. The journalist and writer admitted that he has always been fascinated by tennis’s most elegant stroke, while acknowledging that today the most effective choice would be another.

“The one-handed backhand fascinates me because I grew up watching Edberg and Federer. But if I had to play today, I’d choose the two-handed backhand. Unless I were Musetti, who has an extraordinary backhand but, unfortunately, is often plagued by injuries.”

Scanzi then focused on the rivalry defining this new era of tennis, explaining why his preference lies with the Italian number one without, however, hiding his admiration for the Spaniard: “I choose Sinner, and as an Italian, I’m also proud of him. However, Alcaraz’s game is more varied, spectacular, and well-rounded. His flashes of brilliance are even greater, but Sinner has impressive consistency: when he’s in top form, he rarely drops below a 9.5 performance rating.”

Finally, he drew a comparison with two soccer legends to describe the characteristics of the two champions: “It’s a bit like comparing Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi: Sinner reminds me of Ronaldo—they’re both methodical—while Alcaraz resembles Messi.”
