Andrea Belotti: His Career Is at Risk

Cagliari had chosen Andrea Belotti as the cornerstone of its new season, convinced that the path it had embarked on a year ago could finally find the consistency it had lacked due to the injury he suffered during his first season with the Rossoblù. Instead, everything came to an abrupt halt: medical exams revealed issues serious enough to prevent him from signing a new contract, forcing the club to let the center forward go and raising serious questions about “Gallo’s” future.

The decision, explained by sporting director Pietro Accardi to Sky Sport, came after thorough examinations that unexpectedly extended his recovery time. “A decision made with a heavy heart, but one that was inevitable for the good of Cagliari and the player himself,” said the Sardinian club’s sporting director. Belotti, who just a few days ago had said he was ready to return to action, now finds himself facing an extremely difficult phase in his career at the age of 32.

Belotti arrived in Cagliari on September 1, 2025, signing a one-year contract and immediately becoming a starter. His debut against Parma on the 13th of that same month showed encouraging signs, and a few days later he scored a decisive brace in Lecce, which seemed to herald a resurgence. But on September 27, against Inter, his fortunes took a turn for the worse: he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, a severe injury that sidelined him for seven months, until his return on April 11, 2026, against Cremonese.

Since then, Belotti has been working to regain his competitive form, but the latest news has thrown everything into question. After a torn ACL and a difficult recovery, there is a real risk that his career could enter a critical phase. Cagliari, meanwhile, must return to the transfer market to find a replacement, while a period of uncertainty looms for Belotti that goes beyond the failed transfer deal.
