Jessica Pegula takes a direct shot at Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner’s triumph at Wimbledon marks another chapter in the Italian player’s extraordinary career; at age 24, he has already won five Grand Slam titles and every possible Masters 1000 event. In London, the South Tyrolean tennis player honed his serve, which now ranks him among the undisputed masters of the tour and was decisive for his success.
American tennis player Jessica Pegula didn’t mince words on the podcast *The Player’s Box*: “His wide serve to the left side is insane. And every time I watch him, I see that he keeps getting better. In the past, he had a decent success rate; now he hits an ace almost every time. How did his serve improve so much?”
“His serve is so good that I think it’s one of the best. We should have an award for the most improved serve on the tour. They should give out awards for Sinner’s serve. His serve is ridiculously strong…”.
The numbers speak for themselves: the South Tyrolean tennis player ranks second in the ATP rankings for serve percentage, first for points won on first serve, and first for points won on second serve. He has recorded a total of 128 aces, the most aces served by any player in the entire tournament. The all-time record belongs to Goran Ivanisevic, with 212 in 2001.
Sinner’s 2026 season has already made tennis history. With a record of 44 wins and just 3 losses, his 93.6% win percentage places him among the top 5 best seasons of the Open Era. Ahead of him stand only legendary seasons: Roger Federer’s 94.8% in 2006, the Swiss star’s 95.3% in 2005, Jimmy Connors’ 95.9% in 1974, and John McEnroe’s all-time record of 96.5% in 1984. His only three losses of the year came under unusual circumstances: the Australian Open semifinal against Djokovic after leading two sets to one, the quarterfinal in Doha against an inspired Jakub Mensik, and his dramatic withdrawal at Roland Garros due to illness against the Argentine Cerundolo, when he was leading 5-1 in the third set.
