Napoli Transfer Market: The Usual Lukaku Headache; the Club Sets a Minimum Price

Lukaku has dug in his heels—once again. Just as happened at Manchester United, Inter, and then Chelsea, the Belgian has reached that classic “restless” phase. He no longer feels like a central part of the team’s plans and, as a result, wants a change of scenery.

Napoli, for the time being, prefers to avoid a confrontation. The club has granted him a few extra days of “rest,” likely to try to find a solution. Having cost 30 million euros, he would have to be sold for just over 10 million euros.

On paper, a player like Lukaku is attractive to many. Atlanta United, an MLS club, is reportedly considering him, but the offer, in terms of salary, would fall far short of the Belgian’s expectations. There’s always the option of lucrative Saudi Arabia or Turkey, which is currently very much in vogue.

What is certain is that Lukaku will not stay in Naples to serve as a “backup.” He wants to be a starter, and with Allegri, that option is not plausible. For the sake of all parties involved, the hope is that a solution will be found as soon as possible. Dealing with his “discontent” for much longer wouldn’t be easy.
