When Kimi Antonelli Can Win the F1 World Championship: The Drivers’ Standings

Andrea Kimi Antonelli is getting closer and closer to his first world title. The Mercedes driver consolidated his lead in the Formula 1 drivers’ standings in Singapore, securing third place behind Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. The 20-year-old from Emilia was able to pull ahead of Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton with eight laps to go.
Antonelli has thus increased his lead over second-place teammate George Russell, who could not finish higher than ninth in Singapore after staging a comeback from the back of the grid. The Italian driver’s lead now stands at 102 points.
The driver from Bologna will thus have the chance to win the world championship as early as the next Grand Prix, scheduled for Austin, Texas, on Sunday, October 25. To clinch the title immediately in the United States, he will need to win the race and hope that George Russell finishes no higher than ninth. If the two races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi are not confirmed (due to the difficult situation in the Middle East), Kimi would only need to finish ahead of George or not lose more than two points to be crowned world champion.
