When will Jannik Sinner return to the court? This is the question that has had tennis fans on the edge of their seats for weeks, following the Italian player’s decision to end his season early to recover from the knee injury he sustained in the weeks following his Wimbledon triumph.

In recent hours, a new detail has emerged that has reignited the debate among fans. The South Tyrolean champion’s name appears in the promotional material for the Six Kings Slam, the Riyadh exhibition rescheduled for December 27–30, which will feature some of the best players on the tour. From a communications standpoint, there has been no mention of Sinner stepping back, despite the doubts—a clue that many have interpreted as an encouraging sign regarding the Italian No. 1’s recovery.

The Six Kings Slam was initially scheduled for October, but due to the delicate geopolitical situation in the Middle East, it was postponed to late December. A decision that, at least in theory, could allow Sinner to take part in the event if his recovery proceeds smoothly.

However, the situation remains far from clear. The Italian champion’s top priority remains to be in the best possible shape for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season. Precisely for this reason, many observers believe it is unlikely that Sinner would take unnecessary risks if he is not 100 percent fit, considering the Six Kings Slam organizers’ communication strategy to be risky.

Jannik’s appearance in the tournament’s promotional materials has, however, sparked a lively debate among fans. On one hand, there are those who would welcome a return to an exhibition setting, which could help him regain match rhythm without the pressure of points and rankings. On the other hand, there are fans who are decidedly more cautious.

In fact, many point out that the Six Kings Slam is not just any exhibition tournament. Although it does not award ATP points, the level of the participants is extremely high, and the matches risk turning into full-fledged battles. Facing rivals of the caliber of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic after months of inactivity could prove to be a particularly demanding physical test.

Social media is full of comments urging the Italian player to exercise the utmost caution. “If there’s even a single doubt, it’s better to wait for Melbourne,” writes one person. Others, however, would be thrilled to see him back as early as December: “Even an exhibition match would be a very important sign for 2027.”

At the moment, there is no certainty regarding Sinner’s participation in the Saudi event. However, the use of his name and image in the promotional campaign is a concrete indication that has inevitably raised fans’ hopes. Amid a mix of enthusiasm and caution, the countdown to the Italian champion’s return has already begun.
