Turkey has officially announced Vincenzo Montella’s successor as head coach of the national team. The choice fell on Sergen Yalçin, 53, who will lead the team in its final two matches of the Nations League group stage. However, there will be no match against Italy, which has already played both of its games against the Turkish national team.

As a player, Yalçin was the only one to have worn the jerseys of all four of Turkey’s major soccer clubs: Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, and Trabzonspor. His coaching career has seen him lead Gaziantepspor, Sivasspor, Kayserispor, Eskisehirspor, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Yeni Malatyaspor, Besiktas, and Antalyaspor. The new head coach has signed a four-year contract.

Meanwhile, Vincenzo Montella’s name has been mentioned among those linked to Juventus and Napoli in the event that Luciano Spalletti or Massimiliano Allegri is fired. The former “Aeroplanino” paid the price for the four losses to France, Belgium, and Italy (twice) in the Nations League.

President Ibrahim Hacıosmanoglu and the TFF leadership had extended Montella’s contract through the 2028 European Championship and had strongly defended him even after the World Cup, but they were finally convinced to dismiss him following the recent difficult weeks, agreeing on a severance package for the termination of his contract.
