Medvedev fined after madness with Berrettini: "I don’t understand"

Daniil Medvedev will be punished by the ATP after the incredible scene he made on court during his match against Matteo Berrettini at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. The Russian tennis player, in enormous difficulty on clay, completely lost his temper by repeatedly hitting the ground with his racket, destroying it.
The Moscow athlete, defeated 6-0, 6-0, received a sanction for unsportsmanlike conduct and will pay a hefty fine for his outburst. After the match at Bolshe’s microphones he vented thus about the very heavy defeat he suffered in less than an hour.
“Actually, it’s pretty much the same thing as every year: in practice I wasn’t at my best on clay, but I wasn’t losing 6-0! I really don’t understand what happened,” Medvedev confessed. “I couldn’t hit the ball, not even hit a serve. I used to serve well in practice, so it’s not clear what happened, but it seems you can’t change anything.”
“I probably didn’t put more than two balls into play. You can play aggressively, you can play defensively, but if you don’t hit the court at all, no matter how you play, it won’t help. Again, right now I don’t see any reason for this performance. I don’t even know if it’s worth looking for them or if I should let it go and get ready for the next tournament.”
It’s an abrupt stop for Daniil Medvedev, who had started 2026 on a positive note by winning the title in Dubai and reaching the Indian Wells final after beating Carlos Alcaraz.
