Nadal is too strong, no final for Berrettini

Matthew Berrettini’s hopes at the Us Open were dashed in the semifinals: the Roman tennis player was defeated in Flushing Meadows by world number two Rafa Nadal 7-6, 6-4, 6-1 in two hours and 34′ of play.
The 23-year-old Italian, the fourth Italian of the Open Era in a Slam semifinal, consoled himself by climbing to 13th place in the Atp rankings and now eyes the ATP Finals in London at the end of the season. Nadal, on the other hand, wins his 27th Slam final: on Sunday he will be aiming for his fourth title in New York after wins in 2010, 2013 and 2017, and his 19th success in a Slam tournament. Awaiting him in the final is Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who overcame Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 38′ of play.
Berrettini struggled in the first set, where he managed to take the Spanish outfielder to the tie-break but was forced to concede after failing to take advantage of two set points. In the second partial Nadal manages to place the decisive break in the seventh game, closing 6-4. Without history the last set, which the Mallorcan closes dominating.
