Fracture of the left transverse apophysis of the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae for the Azzurri goalkeeper.

The national team is losing pieces. The first post-Euro 2020 appointment did not prove very lucky for two components of the winning Azzurri expedition that ended with the triumph at Wembley. In fact, after Gallo Belotti, Alex Meret also had to leave Italy’s training camp because he was injured. The diagnosis, communicated directly by his home club, Napoli, is merciless.

“Alex Meret, who reached the national team’s training camp on Sunday evening after the Genoa-Napoli match, underwent instrumental examinations today that showed a fracture of the left transverse apophysis of the third and fourth lumbar vertebrae. The player will return to Naples on Friday morning to continue the rehabilitation process,” reads the note from the Neapolitan club.

The goalkeeper will return to the shadow of Vesuvius after tomorrow’s Italy-Bulgaria match, but recovery time is already being predicted to exceed 30 days.
