Jannik Sinner: Del Potro headed on the'Blue and Carlos Alcaraz

Juan Martin del Potro, the iconic Argentine tennis player who won the U.S. Open in 2009, in an interview with tennis365 made a comparison between the current dominators of the circuit Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, and the Big 3 (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer).
The South Tyrolean and the Murcian have monopolized the major tournaments since 2024, winning nine consecutive Slams and establishing themselves as the main players in men’s tennis. With seven majors for the Spaniard and four for the Italian, their dominance has inevitably led to frequent comparisons with Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer.
When asked about this issue, Del Potro admitted how complex it is to make a direct comparison, “It’s a difficult question. Difficult to answer. Obviously, Carlitos and Jannik are playing magnificent tennis. They are very strong and are able to express themselves at a high level on all surfaces, which is very important.”
At the moment according to Del Potro there is still a clear distinction with the Big 3: “I cannot compare them to the Big Three. Those others, for me, are something special. I’ve played my whole career against them. I know how strong they are and how difficult it has been to achieve everything they have done for tennis.”
Del Potro believes in any case that at this rate Sinner and Alcaraz can get very close: “I also know that Carlitos and Jannik have a great opportunity to get close to them, because today tennis is more open and they are playing much better than the others. So, from my point of view, they have a great chance to continue winning major tournaments.”
