Jannik Sinner breathes a sigh of relief, but he was expecting it

Jannik Sinner comes back and beats the French Benjamin Bonzi by the score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-4, gaining access to the third round of the Madrid Masters 1000. A match that was anything but easy, as the world number 1 himself explained, “Tough, tough match.”
“I struggled but I knew before the match: this is a court with special conditions. I can improve for the next round, I tried to stay calm despite going under and I think one day at a time. The important thing now is to recover physically and stay on the ball mentally, in the meantime I am happy with how I reacted and with the win.”
After successes in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, Sinner in Spain continues to chase a historic goal: to become the first player capable of winning five consecutive Masters 1000s. Even on this, however, he keeps his feet on the ground: “At the moment, I’m thinking about trying to figure out how to play on this surface, then we’ll see how it goes. I know what’s at stake, but I don’t want to focus too much on that. We know where we want to go, but I have to think about my body and how I feel right now.”
