The cycling world mourns the passing, at only 30 years of age, of Camilo Muñoz, six days after the serious accident at the Tour du Jura, in France, for which he was forced to undergo 20 stitches in the hospital. According to reports from La Nueva España, after his discharge Muñoz had joined his teammates in Asturias, but on Tuesday he felt ill and was forced to be hospitalized again, in Valladolid, where doctors revealed a serious infection. Despite treatment, the young cyclist did not make it and passed away on Friday.

Camilo Muñoz was part of the NU Colombia team, engaged in several competitions on European soil. His team decided not to continue the Vuelta a Asturias as a sign of mourning. The unfortunate rider was born on March 20, 1996, in Ventaquemada: in his career he had also been part of UAE Team Emirates, the team captained by Tadej Pogacar, from 2019 to 2021.

Since 2024 he had been part of the NU Colombia team in the UCI Continental category, with stage victories in competitions such as the Clásica de Anapoima and the Vuelta a Boyacá. He had also been best climber in the Clásico RCN. Before the European trip, he had finished ninth in the Vuelta del Tolima and fourth in the Vuelta al Valle del Cauca, two important races in his country.
