Jannik Sinner’s next opponent is unprecedented: Elmer Moller has never crossed paths with Azzurro so far in his career. The 22-year-old Dane, world number 169, eliminated young Azzurro Federico CinĂ  and took advantage of Diallo’s retirement to reach a third round match in a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career.

Now he’s facing the world number one, but Moller is not starting off beaten, on the contrary: “I’m very happy, I played some good matches, it’s nice to be in the third round. I haven’t thought much yet about what it might be like to face Sinner, I’ve been more focused on my own matches, but it’s a match like any other, I don’t think there’s much difference.”

“I don’t think there’s much to explain about Sinner,” Moller continued, “I don’t know what you want me to say… however really for me it will be a match like any other, I’m going to go out there trying to give my best and try to win,” are the words reported by Ubitennis.

“Jannik is a player you can definitely find a lot of videos of. In general … definitely it would help me to play my best tennis, then that always helps and regardless of the opponent you face and the tournament you play, whether it’s here or in a Challenger.”

Moller has grown up together with Holger Rune: “When we see each other it’s nice, we played together in Davis Cup and I want to wish him the best in his recovery, I see he’s working very hard. He deserves to come back, he has great talent and I’m sure he will come back and do great things.”
