Reduced from a disappointing Friday and affected by controversy related to his physical condition, Marc Marquez left his comments to the track by going on to take pole position in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix of the MotoGp class. The reigning world champion dominated Q2, clocking a time of 1:48.087 on his fastest lap, thus earning the right to shoot ahead of everyone in Saturday’s Sprint Race and Sunday’s long race.

To hold up the pace of the outclassman from Cervera was only, somewhat surprisingly, Johann Zarco (Honda LCR), second at the end of Q2 with a delay of 140 thousandths. Much further away were the riders from third place down: Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati VR46) will start third, but his best lap was 1″010 slower than Marquez’s, while Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) will open the second row with a qualifying delay of 1″028.

Completing the second row are Alex Marquez (Ducati Gresini, +1.059) and Pedro Acosta (KTM, +1″143), Jorge Martin (Aprilia, +1″422), Enea Bastianini (KTM Tech3, +2″377) and Raul Fernandez (Aprilia Trackhouse, +2″437) will start on the third row. A sad tenth position for Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati, +2″940), far behind his teammate. They will start 11th and 12th, respectively, instead, Ai Ogura (Aprilia Trackhouse, +3″023) and Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati Gresini, +3″357).

Not qualified for Q2, and therefore forced to start from thirteenth place down, are in order Brad Binder (KTM), Joan Mir (Honda), Luca Marini (Honda), Augusto Fernandez (Yamaha), Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), Franco Morbidelli (Ducati VR46), Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha Pramac), Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia), Alex Rins (Yamaha) and Jack Miller (Yamaha Pramac).
