Como won a complicated match in Verona and qualified for the first time in its history for a European competition. Fabregas’ team won the 12:30 match of the 36th day of Serie A 1-0 thanks to a goal by Douvikas and climbs to 65 points, provisionally in fifth place, -2 from fourth-placed Milan. Verona remains second-last on 20 points.

Great effort for Como in the first half against already relegated Hellas. Fabregas’ team maintained ball possession but struggled to create scoring chances, and instead it was the hosts who had more chances in the first 45′. Amid an atmosphere of protest from the Verona fans, the home team compacts and concedes little to the guests, creating many chances on the restart. In 3′ Butez saves on Suslov’s conclusion, a minute later in a melee in the area Verona hits a crossbar, shortly after Bernede has another great opportunity but again Butez says no to him.

The Larians get into gear around the half-hour mark, but are only dangerous from distance with Jesus Rodriguez. In the final half Verona asks for a penalty for a touch of Diego Carlos’ arm but the VAR does not intervene.

Como enters the field with a different flair in the second half, there is Baturina in place of Rodriguez. Diao’s header sends just wide, at 56′ Cunha after a nice combination with Baturina sends into Montipò’s arms. The game remains broken up but the guests at 71′ pass thanks to Douvikas with a nice counter-balance shot.

The proud Hellas reacted but saw the equalizing goal cancelled due to an irregular position of Bowie. At the triple whistle the Comaschi celebrated, arithmetically conquering Europe: in the next two days they will also know which cup.
