Roger Federer: "I miss the'atmosphere of the court". And he prepares a gift to the fans

Roger Federer, legendary 20-time Grand Slam tournament winner, global sports icon and upcoming member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, will return to the court in New York for an exhibition event titled “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York,” scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Arthur Ashe Stadium, home of the U.S. Open.
Federer is one of the symbols of Flushing Meadows history, still being the only tennis player, regardless of gender, capable of winning five consecutive titles at the U.S. Slam, from 2004 to 2008. His return will take place in a celebratory evening that will feature him alongside 2003 edition champion Andy Roddick, as well as two other tennis legends (and themselves US Open winners) such as Andre Agassi and John McEnroe. The event is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time, 1 a.m. Aug. 26 in Italy.
“The U.S. Open has always been one of the most important tournaments for me,” Federer told official U.S. Open channels. “In New York I have experienced so many unforgettable moments in my career, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means so much. I miss being part of that atmosphere and feeling the incredible energy that the fans reserve for tennis players every year. To go back there and share the evening with Andy, Andre, and John will be fantastic-I can’t wait to celebrate those memories, see the fans again, and experience a very special night together.”
Great words of gratitude also from the USTA, the U.S. Federtennis, through Interim President and CEO Brian Vahaly: “It goes without saying that Roger Federer is one of the greatest champions to ever set foot on a tennis court; his legacy at the U.S. Open will be passed on for generations. We are thrilled to welcome him for this unique and special event, offering fans the opportunity to celebrate his career and thank him for all he has represented to our sport.”
