Luigi Suigo has chosen Villanova: there is a strategy behind this decision

It seemed he was destined to enter the golden world of the NBA starting in the 2026–27 season, but instead, Luigi Suigo has chosen to postpone his NBA Draft appearance.
The young Italian big man will, in fact, play in the NCAA next season, specifically at Villanova, one of the most prestigious universities (a certain Jalen Brunson, the new hero of the New York Knicks, also played there).
A decision that came after he participated in several workouts (with the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and Washington Wizards) while not in peak physical condition (“I injured my ankle and couldn’t show what I’m capable of,” he told Sky Sport). The risk of being picked late—or, why not, not being selected at all in the Draft—gave the former Olimpia Milano player pause.
Hence the decision to postpone his NBA debut by one season. After excelling with Mega Basket, Luigi Suigo will use his year in the NCAA with Villanova to further improve and arrive at the 2027 NBA Draft in top form. The goal remains the same; he just has to be patient for one more year.
