Leorat Bega is Verona’s first signing

Leorat Bega is a Gialloblù midfielder for the new-look Hellas Verona squad, which was relegated to Serie B last May. After appointing Marco Baroni as head coach, here is the Verona club’s first signing: Bega arrives from the Swiss club Stade Nyonnais.
Bega, born in Geneva on July 18, 2003, has signed a three-year contract. He came up through the youth academy of Servette, a club in Switzerland’s top division. In 2022, he moved to Freiburg, Germany, where he joined the Under-19 squad, before returning to Switzerland to play for Wil.
Over the past two seasons, he has played for Stade Nyonnais in the Challenge League, racking up 56 appearances, 5 goals, and 3 assists across league play and the Swiss Cup. At the international level, he has represented Switzerland’s Under-19 team, for which he has made 5 appearances and scored 1 goal.
Bega will thus be one of the first pieces of the technical project entrusted to Marco Baroni, who officially took over as Verona’s head coach on July 1, 2026, with a contract running through June 30, 2028, and an option to extend through 2029. For the Florentine coach, this marks a return to Verona: during the 2023–24 season, he had already led the Gialloblù to avoid relegation from Serie A, finishing in 13th place in the standings.
The club’s stated goal is an immediate return to the top flight, and the retention of sporting director Sean Sogliano was one of the decisive factors in shaping the new project. Throughout his career, Baroni has already proven his ability to secure major promotions: he did so with Benevento in the 2016–17 season and with Lecce in 2021–22.
