Juventus Transfer Market: Giovanni Carnevali Has an Alternative to Jhon Lucumí

Giovanni Carnevali continues to closely monitor Tarik Muharemovic, a player he particularly admired during his time at Sassuolo. However, the arrival of the Bosnian defender would not rule out the possibility of signing Jhon Lucumí, the top target to shore up a shaky defense.

In fact, Juventus retains a 50% share of any future resale of the player by Sassuolo. For this reason, bringing the young center back—who developed and came into his own in the Next Gen program—back to Turin could be a financially advantageous move, allowing the Bianconeri to secure the player with a modest investment.

As for the competition, it’s worth noting that Inter had long identified Muharemovic as the ideal fit for their defensive overhaul, even reaching an informal agreement in principle with the player’s representatives for a five-year contract. The negotiations, however, proved complicated precisely because of the stake held by Juventus, which forced Sassuolo to raise its financial demands to ensure a satisfactory return. This gives Juventus a structural advantage, one that Carnevali is now ready to exploit to the fullest.

The 2003-born player is also currently making waves at the World Cup with Bosnia and Herzegovina, although he had to sit out Wednesday night’s match against Qatar due to suspension, following his red card in the previous game against Switzerland. This detail, however, has not dampened Juventus’ interest, as the club is well aware of the value of a player who is showcasing his talents on soccer’s biggest international stage.

As for Lucumí, however, the Bianconeri must contend with a €28 million buyout clause that can be activated until mid-July. Once that deadline passes, there is a real risk of a bidding war involving Premier League clubs—a scenario that Juventus management wants to avoid at all costs. Juventus has already submitted an offer between 18 and 20 million, but Bologna does not seem willing to budge on the price, making the deal even more complicated. Interest in the Colombian is not new: as early as last winter’s transfer window, Luciano Spalletti had identified him as his top defensive target, sparking a bidding war with Roma, which Juventus ultimately won.
