Turin Transfer Market: Cagliari Edges Out the Granata for a Defensive Signing

Cagliari is working to land a high-profile signing for the wing: according to reports in *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, the Sardinian club has set its sights on Matteo Darmian, a former defender for Inter and the Italian national team.

The Rossoblù club has reportedly already contacted the player, who is currently a free agent and had also been linked in recent days to his former team, Torino. Torino considered the move but postponed it until the final phase of the transfer window, while Cagliari is moving more decisively and will try in the coming hours to beat the competition to the punch and close the deal immediately.

Darmian, born in 1989, became a free agent after leaving Inter at the end of a long and successful six-year stint with the Nerazzurri, during which he helped the Milan-based club win its 21st Serie A title. Before joining Inter, the fullback had played for Milan, Padova, Palermo, Manchester United, and Parma, as well as Torino, of course.

He played for Torino from 2011 to 2015, making 151 appearances across all competitions and scoring six goals. It is therefore no surprise that his name had once again been frequently linked to the Piedmontese club, with Sky having recently reignited speculation about a sensational return to Turin after eleven years.
