Bonny not enough, Verona draws at San Siro but Inter party anyway

Inter celebrated the Scudetto and Coppa Italia in a packed San Siro, closing with a 1-1 draw against Verona. Unlocking the game was an own goal by Edmundsson, a defender originally from Toftir, a tiny town in the Faroe Islands with just a thousand inhabitants. Then Bowie’s equalizer came in the second half, but the result went almost unnoticed amidst the Nerazzurri celebration.
Before the starting whistle, Inter entered the field accompanied by the players’ sons and daughters during the Serie A anthem, immediately setting the tone for a special day. More than 75 thousand fans fill the San Siro, arriving from all over Italy to celebrate the “doblete” and to say goodbye to some of the team’s historical pillars: Darmian, welcomed by a banner and a standing ovation, but also Acerbi, Mkhitaryan, Sommer and perhaps De Vrij, all protagonists of a cycle destined to leave their mark.
Once again, Inter finds the goal thanks to one of its favorite weapons: set pieces. A constant that has accompanied the entire season and contributed decisively to the 86 goals scored, the best attack in the league. This time it all stemmed from a Mkhitaryan corner from the right: Bonny soared a header and Edmundsson’s decisive deflection mocked Montipò in the 47th minute. A lead that could have turned into something wider if the Verona goalkeeper had not raised the wall in front of Lautaro Martinez, by now the virtual top scorer of the tournament. It’s hard to imagine that one of Malen, Thuram and Douvikas, stopped at 13 goals, could make up four goals for him on the final day. Then, in the 91st minute, Bowie surprised newcomer Di Gennaro with an accurate left-footer from the edge and signed the equalizer.
