Cagliari Transfer Market: An Offer Made for Sebastiano Esposito

Sebastiano Esposito will leave Cagliari in the coming days: following the breakdown in negotiations over his contract renewal, the situation is beyond repair, and the player—who has not returned to training camp—will be transferred during this transfer window.

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini will not accept a low offer for the player, who is of great interest to Como: the Como side has identified him as an attractive addition, particularly for their roster of Italian players ahead of the Champions League (currently, Fabregas’s squad includes only Goldaniga, Liberali, and Vigorito).

Giulini, who will have to pass on 40% of the agreed-upon price to Inter, won’t go below the asking price of 20 million euros, but Como has a card to play to lower the price: the transfer rights to Belgian defender Van Der Brempt, in whom the Sardinians are very interested.

The rift between Esposito and the Sardinian club erupted dramatically on the eve of Cagliari’s departure for Germany, where the team was scheduled to play a friendly against Union Berlin. The Rossoblù club had issued an official statement claiming that the player had left the first team’s training camp in Ponte di Legno “without authorization.” It was a very harsh stance, to which the player’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, responded almost immediately: “Cagliari’s statement is a complete fabrication! Yesterday I was on the phone from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. with sporting director Accardi and head coach Pisacane, and—in the player’s very presence—we agreed on a few days’ absence due to a period of intense stress the young man was experiencing. We agreed that he would return on August 5 after the friendly match in Germany.”
