Inter is working on its final signing of the summer: Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, who has long been on Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio’s radar. According to rumors, Inter executives have stopped dithering and have taken concrete steps to sign the English player, who has been at odds with the Reds for weeks.

Negotiations between Inter and Liverpool have officially begun, with Inter reaching out to the English club—as reported by Sportmediaset. The Nerazzurri have accelerated the deal and hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible. Several English media outlets report a certain level of discontent among Liverpool’s management regarding the player’s attitude, as he has often clashed with his teammates in Liverpool’s recent friendly matches. The Premier League club has decided to lower its asking price of 40 million for the player: 30 million, plus bonuses, should now suffice. Jones’s contract expires in 2027, and Liverpool has no intention of losing him on a free transfer next June (as happened with Konaté and Salah).

Jones has reportedly made it clear that he prefers Milan, even going so far as to personally deny rumors of alleged agreements with other clubs. A telling sign also emerged in recent days when the English midfielder “liked” a post by John Stones—his future teammate at Inter—who had celebrated the goal he scored on his debut against Betis Sevilla.

Chivu considers Jones a player with unique qualities compared to the other midfielders already on the roster: the Nerazzurri coach sees him as a true utility player, capable of operating in multiple areas of the field thanks to his intensity, strength, and ability to play vertically. His tactical versatility also adds value on the defensive end: if needed, the Englishman could even be deployed as a right back, thus filling the void left by Luis Henrique’s departure in that area of the field.
