PSG makes its league debut and is once again among the top favorites to win Ligue 1. Luis Enrique’s team, however, faces an unusual opening day, as the match against Rennes will not be played at the Parc des Princes due to the stadium being unplayable. Paris Saint-Germain heads into the match after a summer marked by inconsistent results and three consecutive losses. In their summer friendlies, the Parisians managed just two wins, while they’ve conceded goals in each of their last five matches. The match is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, at 8:45 p.m. at Roazhon Park in Rennes.

Paris Saint-Germain kicked off the season by winning the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, but then faltered in their second official match, losing the French Super Cup final to Lens. Luis Enrique’s team also struggled during the summer preseason, managing only two wins. The offense does not yet appear to be in top form, and the defense has conceded at least one goal in each of its last five matches.

Rennes made some changes during the summer transfer window, parting ways with defender Jacquet—who moved to Liverpool for over 63 million euros—and bringing in forward Mayenda from Sunderland. However, the team coached by Franck Haise did not particularly shine in their summer friendlies. They secured victories against Guingamp and Club Brugge, followed by three consecutive losses against English teams. Rennes has stuck with its traditional 4-4-2 formation and continues to prioritize an attacking style of play. One of the team’s key assets is Esteban Lepaul, last season’s top scorer with 21 goals.
