Monza Transfer Market: First Signing from Inter Already Announced—A Great Move for Juric
Just a few hours after Ivan Juric requested reinforcements, Monza made a move in the transfer market by adding a new player to its defense. The Brianza-based club has finalized the signing of Ylan Maye, a 20-year-old French center back who played in Inter’s preseason under Chivu last season before joining the Under-23 team coached by Stefano Vecchi. With the Nerazzurri, he scored one of the two goals in their 2-1 victory over Catania. However, Inter has chosen to retain control over the player: the transfer was structured as a loan with an option to buy and a buyback clause.
Inter U23, the Nerazzurri’s second team established in the 2025–26 season after the Federation gave the green light following SPAL’s exclusion from Serie C, has proven to be a valuable source of talent for the Milan-based club. Stefano Vecchi, a highly experienced coach who previously led Inter’s Primavera team from 2014 to 2018, has helped develop a number of young talents ready to make the leap to higher divisions, and Maye is one of the most recent examples of this successful path.
The deal is part of a close collaboration between the two clubs, which have already been involved in several transfer moves this summer. Officials from Monza and Inter have also begun negotiations to strengthen Monza’s midfield, which has been severely impacted by captain Matteo Pessina’s serious injury—a dislocated patella in his right knee that will sideline him for about three to four months. Among the players under discussion are Kristjan Asllani and Yanis Massolin, with the latter potentially joining Monza on loan after being signed permanently from Modena during the winter transfer window.
The needs of Monza’s roster had been clearly outlined by Juric himself following the 4-1 loss on Inter’s home field on the opening day of the season. “The team needs to be bolstered in various positions on the field,” the Croatian coach had stated, adding: “I expect a lot from the transfer market; if we want to stay up, we need to make moves in every position.” These words starkly illustrated an emergency situation that wasn’t limited to defense alone.
In addition to the back line and midfield, the goalkeeper position also remains an open question for the Brianza-based club. Semuel Pizzignacco’s performance at the Meazza was underwhelming, and the possibility of signing Jacob Zetterström—a Swedish goalkeeper born in 1998 who currently plays for Derby County and was seen in action at the recent World Cup between the posts for the Swedish national team—remains a real possibility. Maye’s arrival, therefore, is just one piece of the transfer puzzle that Monza must complete in the final hours available.
