Naples Transfer Market: Rafael Leao Causes a Stir Among the Neapolitans
At Napoli, one of the main issues in these final hours of the transfer window concerns Noa Lang. The Dutch winger seemed destined for Galatasaray, but in the last few hours the situation has changed significantly. The Istanbul club has, in fact, decided to focus heavily on Rafa Leão, who has become their top choice to strengthen the left flank. Interest in the Milan forward has turned into concrete negotiations, with the Turks reportedly presenting the Rossoneri with an offer of 45 million euros plus bonuses, in addition to a substantial salary proposal for the Portuguese player.
Leão’s transfer to Galatasaray would inevitably put the brakes on the Lang deal, considering that the two players—despite having different styles—primarily operate in the same area of the field. The Dutchman therefore remains in Naples, awaiting further developments. His goal is to find more playing time and consistency, but Napoli has no intention of letting him go on unfavorable terms.
It should also be noted, however, that the relationship between Lang and Napoli had already soured significantly last season. The Dutch player had been loaned to Galatasaray under a costly agreement with a buyout clause set at 25 million, which the Turks ultimately did not exercise. On that occasion, the former PSV player did not hold back with his harsh words toward then-coach Antonio Conte: “I didn’t click with the coach; let’s just leave it at that,” he told ESPN, adding that “one day, the whole truth will come out.” This clear rift had effectively burned bridges with the Neapolitan club even before the end of the season, making a permanent separation today virtually inevitable.
In particular, the option of a straight loan—a solution also proposed by Ajax—is not convincing. Napoli would consider a temporary transfer only if it included a mandatory buyout clause or, at the very least, financial terms deemed satisfactory. To break the deadlock, Galatasaray will therefore need to make a new offer, or another suitor will have to step in. Atalanta no longer appears to be in the picture, having shifted its transfer strategies elsewhere in the meantime.
The developments regarding Atalanta warrant further examination. The Bergamo-based club had reached a preliminary agreement with Napoli for a total of 27 million euros, but in recent hours it appears to have shifted its focus to other players, with Bologna’s Jonathan Rowe at the top of Maurizio Sarri’s wish list. Another factor pushing Atalanta in new directions is the imminent sale of Honest Ahanor to Chelsea for approximately 40 million euros, which would add to the 55 million already received this summer for Marco Palestra, further bolstering the club’s coffers and opening up broader transfer market possibilities.
Lang’s departure would also align with Napoli’s signing strategies. Allegri wants to add a forward to the squad with different characteristics than Hojlund and Lucca, and the name at the top of the list is Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian, born in 1997, is set to leave Arsenal—where his contract expires in 2027—and has reportedly already expressed his interest in a move to Naples: his exclusion from the Community Shield match against Manchester City has definitively clarified his position at the Gunners. The player, represented in Italy by Branchini, has no intention of renewing his contract and wants a permanent transfer, categorically ruling out the possibility of a loan deal.
