Lazio Transfer Market: This Time It’s Finally Happening—The Final Chapter of the Romagnoli Saga

The long-running saga involving Alessio Romagnoli and Al Sadd seems to have reached its final stages. After the transfer fell through during the winter transfer window, this time the deal appears set to be finalized successfully: the defender is ready to leave Lazio to move to Qatar. Documents are currently being exchanged between Al Sadd and Lazio, while medical exams have already been scheduled. Once the administrative and medical procedures are complete, Romagnoli will sign a four-year contract, valid through 2030.

The transfer had already been set in motion last January, when Romagnoli came within a hair’s breadth of moving to Qatar. However, some bureaucratic issues caused the deal to fall through at the very last minute. A few months later, Al Sadd has returned to the table, and this time there do not appear to be any obstacles capable of stopping the deal. Furthermore, in the last few hours, no move by Atalanta has materialized, effectively leaving only the Qatari option on the table. Time is tight, especially since the transfer window in Qatar closes tomorrow. The goal for both sides is therefore to finalize all the remaining details in the coming hours and allow Romagnoli to begin his new adventure.

Romagnoli’s departure is part of Lazio’s process of rebuilding its defense. In this transfer window, the Biancocelesti have in fact bolstered their defense with the arrivals of Doekhi and Sutalo, with the latter set to gradually work his way into the rotation. Patric also remains on the roster, though he has recently had to deal with several physical issues. Gigot, on the other hand, has already left the club after terminating his contract. Both the Frenchman’s contract and Romagnoli’s were set to expire in 2027.
