Inter: Who Is Dario Baccin, Piero Ausilio’s Replacement?

On Wednesday, Inter officially announced the departure of Piero Ausilio after 28 years with the Nerazzurri: Replacing him in the organizational structure is Dario Baccin, the new Chief Sports Officer and former head of Inter’s Under-23 team.

Born in Novara, Dario Baccin built his career in soccer starting on the field. A defender until the age of 33, he enjoyed a long career in Serie C and Serie D before turning the experience he gained as a player into a new profession: that of an executive. The move behind the desk took him first to Siena and then, most notably, to Palermo, where he worked extensively in the youth sector until he became head of the Rosanero youth academy.

His time in Palermo proved to be a pivotal stage in his professional development. Baccin honed his ability to observe and develop young players, developing a particular focus on scouting and designing development paths for young talent. In 2017, he received a call from Inter, which initially assigned him a role in the youth academy. Since 2021, he has served as deputy sporting director of the Nerazzurri club.

Over the years, his work has increasingly expanded to include international scouting and technical planning. This work, often carried out away from the spotlight—involving trips abroad and the evaluation of young prospects—has made him a key figure in Inter’s sports department. Among the deals linked to his work, one that stands out is the one that brought the young Issiaka Kamate to Milan—a player he identified during a youth tournament in France and who was subsequently added to Inter’s youth academy.

For Baccin, who has turned 50, this milestone comes at the height of a career that has taken him from playing soccer to a leadership role at one of Italy’s top clubs.
