There are six Ligue 1 teams that, after three matchdays, have yet to lose a game: PSG isn’t among them (in fact, they’ve earned just two points so far), but Rennes is, and they’ll try to maintain their unbeaten streak in the early kickoff of the fourth matchday of the French top flight against Olympique de Marseille. The teams take the field at 8:45 p.m. at Roazhon Park in Rennes, with 47-year-old referee Jeremy Stinat, a native of Chartres, officiating.

Rennes began its season with a 2-2 draw against PSG: a match that, however, left more regrets than smiles, given that the Red-and-Whites were up by two goals after 38 minutes (with goals from Szymanski and Lepaul) and were caught up in the final minutes by a brace from Ferran Torres. The next two matchdays brought two more wins: a 3-2 home victory over Le Mans (goals by Lepaul, Rongier, and Lepaul again on a penalty kick in the 96th minute) and a 2-1 win on the road against Angers (goals by Frankowski and an own goal by Lefort for Rennes), which puts them two points behind Monaco with a perfect record.

OM, on the other hand, had given their fans false hope in the first round with a resounding 4-0 victory over Strasbourg, with goals from Gouiri (a brace, the second on a penalty kick), Abdallah, and Hojbjerg: but in the next two rounds came defeats against Monaco (2-0 at the ‘Louis II’) and Paris FC (3-2, despite another brace from Gouiri), which have already sparked discontent among the ever-demanding Marseille fans. The match against Rennes will be an important opportunity to get back on track in European competition as well: next Thursday, the Europa League season kicks off, with OM set to face Besiktas on the road.
