These are hours of great concern for Andrea Camplone: the former soccer player and captain of Pescara fell ill while playing padel in Montesilvano in the late afternoon of Friday, September 11.

The 60-year-old soccer coach reportedly collapsed suddenly to the ground during the match and lost consciousness. Emergency response was immediate; the medical staff at the facility intervened right away, and then paramedics from the 118 emergency service used a state-of-the-art automatic external defibrillator to resuscitate the man, who was then transported as a code red emergency to Santo Spirito Hospital in Pescara.

Camplone, currently in the intensive care unit, underwent a procedure in the catheterization lab, and his condition is now stable, although his prognosis remains guarded, according to ANSA.

Born in 1966, Cantone played for years as a defender for Pescara, and in the latter part of his career also played for Perugia, Ancona, and Gubbio. After retiring as a player, he became a coach, leading Lanciano, Pescara, Martina, Cavese, Benevento, Perugia, Bari, Cesena, Catania, and Arezzo over the years. Among the trophies he won as a player was a Serie B championship with the team from his hometown, where he grew up and made his professional soccer debut.
