Milan Transfer Market: Ruben Amorim Gives a Clear Indication—The Pursuit of the Defender Resumes

The season is in full swing, but Milan is already looking ahead to the January transfer window based on the insights gained from this first month of matches under coach Ruben Amorim. Taking advantage of the long break for international play, the Rossoneri management is in fact planning its strategies for the winter transfer window, with a particular focus on the defense.

Among the names back in the spotlight is Gonçalo Inacio, the Portuguese center back from Sporting who was already being closely monitored last summer. The defender, born in 2001, continues to be seen as an ideal fit to bolster Amorim’s backline; the coach knows him well, having previously coached him in Lisbon. According to reports from Tuttosport, it was the Rossoneri coach himself who pushed to reopen negotiations.

This interest is certainly not new. In the final days of the summer transfer window, Milan had tried to seal the deal, coming close to an agreement. The deal, however, did not materialize because Sporting preferred to keep its captain, having failed to find a suitable replacement in time. Since then, however, the lead has never truly cooled off. Contacts with the player’s representatives have continued, and Inacio remains a top priority in the assessments of the club based on Via Aldo Rossi.

The main obstacle remains financial. Sporting considers Inacio one of the most important players on the roster, and, backed by a long-term contract, does not seem willing to make concessions. For this reason, Milan will likely have to come forward with a substantial offer if it wants to convince the Portuguese club to open negotiations in January.
