Fiorentina Loses; Genoa Claims First Win of the Season

Matchday 6 of Serie A kicked off with Genoa’s first win of the season, as they defeated Fiorentina 2-1 at the Ferraris Stadium and moved level with the Viola at 4 points in the standings. Goals by Osmajic and Messias, both scored in the first 15 minutes, proved decisive, while an own goal by Vasquez in the second half brought the match back into contention—though the Rossoblù still managed to hold on for the win.
The Grifone got off to a blistering start. In the 7th minute, Ellertsson found Osmajic in the center of the box with a precise pass, and the Montenegrin forward made no mistake, putting the home team ahead. Just eight minutes later, the roles were reversed: Osmajic provided the assist for Messias, who doubled the lead and immediately put Fiorentina on the back foot.
The Viola tried to respond, and in the 20th minute, Gnonto even found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed due to an earlier offside call on Beto. Ranieri and Oulai then came close to getting back into the game, but Genoa seemed to be holding on to their lead until the 73rd minute, when Vasquez unintentionally deflected Gimenez’s cross into his own net, gifting Fiorentina the goal that reignited their hopes.
In the closing minutes, the visitors ramped up the pressure, and in the 84th minute, Ndour hit the post, with Bijlow managing to make the save on the rebound as well. It was the last major chance of the match: when the final whistle blew, Genoa could finally celebrate, securing their first three points of the season.
