The day after the spectacular victory over Inter in the Champions League, Yann Sommer decided to make his separation from his wife Alina official. The Club Brugge goalkeeper chose to do so via a post on Instagram: “After seven years of marriage, Alina and I decided by mutual agreement earlier this year to go our separate ways, having reached this decision after deep and careful consideration.”

“We look back on the time we spent together with deep gratitude and mutual respect,” the Swiss goalkeeper emphasized. “What will bind us forever are our two daughters, whose happiness and well-being will continue to be our absolute priority.”

“For the sake of and to protect our family, we kindly ask for your understanding regarding our decision not to issue any further statements on this matter. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your sensitivity and respect for our privacy at this time.”

On Tuesday evening, Sommer—now with Club Brugge—faced his former team, Inter, at San Siro. The match took a turn for the better in the 30th minute thanks to Nicolò Tresoldi’s first goal of the evening, scored on a penalty kick. Lautaro Martinez tied the score shortly before halftime, then Tresoldi beat Josep Martinez twice in less than ten minutes.

In the 81st minute, Lautaro Martinez scored again; Romeo Vermant then made it 4-2 before Ange-Yoan Bonny netted the final goal to make it 4-3.
