After exchanging barbs during the press conferences leading up to the Roma-Real Madrid match, José Mourinho and Gian Piero Gasperini continued their verbal sparring in the post-game press conference following the match at the Olimpico, which saw the Blancos come back from a three-goal deficit in the final minutes to secure an unexpected victory.

After the game, Mourinho gloated: “After the 3-1, they thought the game was over, but it was Roma’s players who were done for,” quipped the Special One. “At the start, they surprised us with Soulé on the wing, who was hard to contain. It was a game in which Roma were superior in every aspect, and after 20 minutes, Real Madrid were unstoppable.”

Here’s the Giallorossi coach’s response: “It seems to me that if anyone was at their limit, it was them. I’m sorry we didn’t score more goals, but they were outclassed in every aspect…,” Gasperini told Amazon Prime Video.

“They scored their goals deservedly, off corner kicks, because they played with great physicality and took them very well. Otherwise, they weren’t up to par. We stumbled at the finish line in the most unexpected way. On the corner kicks, we were passive. We lost a game we were leading. We need to analyze this mentally as well. There wasn’t this negativity at the start.” On injuries: “Koné suffered a muscle strain. Dybala felt a twinge, while the others are dealing with minor niggles.”
