Cristian Chivu appears set to stick with Pepo Martinez in goal for Inter ahead of Saturday’s match against Bologna, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Dall’Ara Stadium. Despite the mistakes he’s made in recent matches, the Spanish goalkeeper is expected to get another chance to defend the Nerazzurri’s goal, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

A change could come in the Champions League, however, with Provedel set to start in the match against Shakhtar Donetsk. The former Lazio goalkeeper could thus see action in two consecutive matches, with the possibility of being named the starter for Inter vs. Fiorentina, scheduled for October 25.

The final decision, however, has not yet been made. Chivu first wants to assess both goalkeepers, evaluating the situation and the outlook ahead of the upcoming back-to-back matches. The Romanian coach’s considerations extend beyond the goalkeeper position. Lautaro Martinez’s injury is forcing Chivu to rethink his attacking options, as he seeks the best solution to maintain the Nerazzurri’s offensive threat without their captain.

There is no shortage of alternatives, but for the away match in Bologna, the coach seems intent on relying on proven players. Up front, therefore, Thuram and Pio Esposito are the favorites to start, with Bonny ready to make his case. The French forward is eager to earn his first start of the season, but for now, the pairing of the Frenchman and the Italian seems to have the edge. Chivu is thus aiming to ensure continuity for the team during a delicate stretch of the schedule, juggling league play and European commitments.
