BC Roma Awaits Reyer Venezia; Alessandro Magro Sends a Clear Message

The matchup against Reyer Venezia represents one of the toughest tests of the early season for BC Roma, coming off an overtime victory in the EuroCup against Balkan that put a smile back on their faces after a narrow loss in the league derby against Maxima. In his pre-game comments to the club’s official channels, Alessandro Magro spoke with great respect for the Venice-based team, describing it as one of Serie A’s top teams.
“We’re playing against one of the best teams in the league, which reached the last Scudetto final and is coming off an incredible season,” said the coach, born in 1982. “They’ve kept the same head coach and the same core group of players, so they have clear and well-defined characteristics and roles. They love to run a lot; they’re very dangerous with players like Watson and Bowman, and above all, they have Wiltjer, a player capable of playing on two levels: he can capitalize on his three-point shot and attack inside with his back to the basket.”
“Then,” the coach of the Rome-based team explained further, “there’s Tessitori, a player who finished the playoffs in incredible fashion and is proving to be a key factor in this league. So we’ll have to be very careful to limit their fast breaks and their ability to score in the first eight seconds of possession. We’ll need to be solid; we expect to take a step forward defensively compared to our last few games.”
Magro, in any case, confirms he has great confidence in the abilities of the players at his disposal: “I have a team that’s a pleasure to coach. I have an excellent group of guys who are eager to build something together. There are many young players or those with little experience in this league who therefore need a little more time, but I see tremendous willingness on everyone’s part to work hard and try to grow together.”
“At the same time, we have a few areas—especially on defense—that need improvement. But it just takes time and practice because I see a group that’s very willing to work. We’re confident,” he concluded.
